Jara Bravo- Pedro J. Ramírez, journalist and founder of the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, has formalized his resignation today as a director of the newspaper on the Consell d’Administració de Unitat Editorial. Ramírez, displaced Wednesday for the owners of the daily, will be relieved from next Monday for the, until now, Vice Chancellor Casimiro García Abadillo.
The reasons of his resignation are the pressures of the powers, specifically the ones of the Popular Party and the Royal House that, root of the constant critical of the journalist on subjects like the case Barcenas or the bad management of the President Mariano Rajoy, would have done pressure to cause the withdrawal of the former director of the Diario 16.
The outcome of Pedro J. Ramírez could be 12 million euro and his continuity in the newspaper, since the agreement of the journalist arrived until he’ll 65 years and surpassed the 25 million euro. Thus, in order to avoid the payment of compensation, Unidad Editoral have decided to keep him within of the daily. Despite this, still is not nothing confirmed.
Ramírez has been involved in the last months in the change of skin of El Mundo, based in the integration of the newspaper in paper and digital and the application of the system of payment for news of Orbyt, including new contents. Also he is responsible of the birth of El Mundo of the afternoon, an afternoon edition of the newspaper.
The new director, Casimiro Garcia-Abadillo, must deal with two aims: improve relations with the Popular Party and eliminate the negative economic situation of the daily.
