Georgina Boixereu.- eldiario.es closes the first 2013 financial exercise with 13,330€ of net profit. The digital newspaper, managed by Ignacio Escobar, predicted for this year a loss of 70,376€, but unexpected benefits have permitted a flip on the newspaper.
The newspaper’s incomes enter from three different sources: advertisement, sales of the “Cuaderno” magazine, and the subscribers’ contributions. These last inputs are essential, as, although they are not the most significant income item -they represent a 30%-, “they’re the difference that make possible that numbers of eldiario.es add up”, states Escobar.
However, not only news regarding the journal’s economy have been positive, but the number of workers has also been increased. In a clear bet for the gazette’s contents, it has boosted the number of editors, which has escalated from 17 to 21. Moreover, the lowest salaries have incremented from 15 to 20% since 2014 started.
